After Chetak’s huge success, Bajaj Auto is now planning to introduce another electric motorcycle in the Indian market. Recently, the company has filed a trademark application for the nameplate “Freerider”. It is being speculated that Bajaj Freerider will use the same platform as that of Husqvarna E-Pilen. The hardware setup like the frame, braking apparatus, and suspension setup could be the same. Design-wise, it will get a sharp, sporty look along with a unique set of features. Eye-catchy graphics and decals are also likely to be seen. Not many details have been revealed yet. But we can expect the electric motorcycle to get a neo-retro design theme.
Performance-wise, the Freerider will use the same electric powertrain as that of the E-Pilen concept. The latter comes equipped with an 8 kW electric motor that is powered by a swappable battery pack. It further generates 10.73 bhp power and has a range of 100 kms on a single charge.
Talking about Husqvarna E-Pilen, the concept was revealed earlier this year in April. The production is likely to commence later this year. However, we can expect the E-Pilen to be launched towards the end of this year or early 2022. The concept shares several of its features with Svartpilen and Vitpilen. These include a round headlamp, sculpted fuel tank that houses the battery pack, wide handlebar, and exposed trellis frame.
Bajaj is collaborating with KTM to develop a common electric platform. Thus, we expect the Freerider to hit the market anytime soon. Furthermore, KTM and Husqvarna are also working on a new electric scooter that will be utilizing Bajaj Chetak’s platform. Unlike Chetak, Freeride is also likely to be a premium lifestyle product.
