The new 8-series’ official debut will be at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The car looks like it will retain the two-door coupé layout of the previous car that was first launched internationally way back in 1989.
No technical details are clear though, but what’s known is that the concept will influence a production model that’s due for launch next year. Recent trademark applications suggest that BMW is also working on a high-performance M8 model too. The car is built on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, shared with the 5-series and 7-series. It could most probably be offered with a 609hp, 6.6-litre V12 engine as its most powerful variant.
This future car will be the company’s technological flagship. It will feature driveline components, multi-material architecture, and electrical system and connectivity solutions similar to what does duty in the current 7-series. The car is set to make its public debut near Lake Como in Italy.
