The Gran Coupe will also be sold with a 370hp M variant.

The company is currently working on a Gran Coupe version of its 2-series. The mainstay of the range will be a 370hp M variant that will compete with the Audi RS3 sedan and Mercedes-AMG CLA 45.

This car will be more engaging to drive, and new photos of the car show rear doors and a raised rear roof section to create a five-door liftback shape, which promises to add more practicality to the M2 Gran Coupe package.

The interior will also feature a new layout as well with all the latest tech from the carmaker. The turbocharged three-cylinder and four-cylinder engines for the 2-series Gran Coupé will be shared with the existing coupé and cabriolet. The new M car will use the same 370hp, 3.0-litre turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine as its two-door sibling. This will allow it to perform along the lines of the M2 coupé, which has an official 0-100kph time of 4.5sec.

The company might also be working on a 2-series Gran Coupe plug-in hybrid model. The 2-Series Gran Coupe cars will be built alongside the coupé and cabriolet at BMW's plant in Leipzig.
