Sebastian Vettel to leave Ferrari F1 at the end of 2020; Lewis Hamilton to stay with Mercedes.

In a stunning development, Sebastian Vettel will be leaving Ferrari at the end of the 2020 Formula 1 season. Sebastian Vettel's contract with Ferrari was due to end by 2020 and both the parties couldn’t come to an agreement regarding the extension. BBC and Bild are reporting that Vettel rejected the contract offer proposed by the Italian racing unit. With Vettel's exit, Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz Jr are in the reckoning to become the teammate of Charles De Lerc. There were rumours of Lewis Hamilton making a switch from Mercedes but the indications from the Hamilton camp are to stay with Mercedes for now. The acclaimed British Racer wants to see out his career in Mercedes and that puts water to any news linking him to Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel won 14

Sebastian's career has been a mixed one at Ferrari after a stupendous success with Red Bull. Vettel topped the drivers' standings for four consecutive years at Red Bull from 2010 -2014. When he moved to Ferrari, there were high hopes from Vettel but his arrival coincided with Mercedes dominance. Lewis Hamilton's arrival at Mercedes signalled an era of dominance with Vettel failing to break the Hamilton dominance. Vettel hoped to become the first Ferrari driver to win the championship since Kimi Raikonnen won it in 2007 but couldn’t.

The closest Vettel got to winning the driver title was in 2007. He started the season strongly and was leading the driver standings by the mid-season break but lost the league to Hamilton by a whopping 46 points. Last season was the most disappointing one for Sebastian Vettel as he was outscored by team-mate Leclerc and stood 5th in the championship. Vettel and Leclerc had tense moments as teammates in the Brazilian GP.
