The electric version is currently being prepped for China and an India launch is also in the works.

In an interview with Automotive News, Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of Renault stated that the electric Kwid, which is being prepped for China, could find its way to markets like India too. “Once the Kwid electric works in China, there's no reason you're not going to export the car to India, to Brazil, to the Middle East.” Ghosn said to the Automotive News reporter.

He also mentioned that he has driven the prototype, which means the production version could almost be ready. China is considered a key EV market but, just like in India, pricing will be crucial. The Kwid EV will be called the ‘e-Kwid’ and can go 140km on a single charge, which is ideal for the city. It will be fitted with a lithium-ion battery pack. We’re not sure when the car will come to India, primarily thanks to inadequate charging infrastructure and high costs.

Renault engineers have stated that currently a typical EV costs at least 60 percent more to manufacture than a conventional engine-powered version.
