Here are a few important bits about Maruti’s latest offering

Maruti has launched its new premium model, the Ignis. Priced at Rs. 4.59 lakh, it is the smallest and most affordable car sold at the premium Nexa chain of dealerships. Here is a summary of the key features of this new model:

1. Its design takes inspiration from old Suzukis
The design style of the car is that of a hatchback with various aspects of an SUV included like its height, big wheel arches and roof rails. Maruti has managed to fill out its small frame with an elegant nose composed into the grille-and-headlight cluster. The rear is styled much like a retro Suzuki.

2. Available in four variants
The Ignis is available in four different variants. They are Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha, like all other Nexa offerings. The petrol model is available in all four trims, while the diesel is available in only three. The cheapest Sigma variant is on sale only with a petrol motor.

3. It is powered by familiar Maruti engines:
While much of the car is new, it shares its engines with the Swift and the Baleno - the same 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine as well as the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. The petrol engine makes 83hp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 4,200rpm, while the diesel makes 75hp at 4,000rpm and 190Nm at 2,000rpm. It packs a decent punch for its size.

4. The feature-packed interior is also spacious
A look at the car might lead you to believe that the interior is pretty cramped. But the inside remains roomy and comes with all kinds of great updates. Top variants feature segment-first LED projector headlamps with DRLs, fog lamps, the SmartPlay infotainment system, auto climate control and reverse camera. Dual front airbags and ABS with EBD have been made standard across all variants. The SmartPlay system on the Ignis features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link connectivity.

5. It is a premium hatchback
With prices starting at Rs 4.59 lakh and going up to Rs 7.80 lakh for the most expensive model, this falls into the category of premium hatchbacks. Prices for the petrol Ignis range from Rs 4.59 – 6.69 lakh while the diesel is priced in the range of Rs 6.39 – 7.80 lakh.
