The upcoming Mercedes is expected to debut at the Detroit motor show in January 2018.

Pictures of the interior of Mercedes’ New G-Class have surfaced online. The updated interior now features a new, wider 12.3-inch touchscreen display that’s mounted just off-centre towards the driver, freeing up space for a grab rail on the passenger side. The circular AC vents are shared with other Mercs, while the new three-spoke steering wheel is the same as the one in the S-class.

While the spy shot shows analogue instruments, Mercedes is expected to offer a digital display as an option in the future. On the outside, the car’s styling is inspired by the original 1979 model’s boxy design. The upcoming G-class is built on a wider, lighter ladder frame chassis and comes with a new electrical architecture; so you can expect a full range of driver assistance technology for on-road and off-road driving when the production version goes on sale.

The car will be powered by Mercedes-AMG’s twin-turbo, 4.0-litre, V8 motor and the new 2.9-litre in-line, six-cylinder diesel. Both will be paired to a nine-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels. They will also most probably feature a low-range gearbox and three lockable differentials.

The updated G-class will most probably be on display at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2018.
