Volkswagen T-Roc R could be re-branded as Volkswagen T-Roc GT in India

Volkswagen India had launched the T-Roc SUV on March 19, 2020 at an introductory price of Rs 19.99 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) in the country. Being sold as a CBU, the deliveries of the SUV started a few days back. Now, it is being learnt that Volkswagen is contemplating the launch of a high-performance T-Roc 'R' version of the SUV for the Indian market. Though, it could come with a different name in India like Volkswagen T-Roc GT as the 'GT' word is quite popular in India with VW models such as Polo and Vento instead of the R.

Volkswagen T-Roc R comes with adaptive chassis control as optional feature in global markets but it is unlikely to be offered with the India-spec model as the Octavia 245 RS also launched in the country without the adaptive chassis control. For those asking, this feature allows the driver to configure the running gear as per convenience in three modes: Normal, Sport & Comfort. Upon selecting any mode, it electrically adjusts damping and the steering wheel. The international-spec model even gets an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system as optional equipment but again, the Indian model would be deprived of it. The performance-oriented SUV is expected to launch by mid 2021, report our friends at CarAndBike.

Under the hood, Volkswagen T-Roc R has a 2.0L turbocharged TSI petrol engine which generates maximum power output of 295bhp at 5000rpm and peak torque performance of 400Nm between 2000-5200rpm. The engine is linked to a 7-speed dual clutch (DSG) automatic transmission while power is transmitted to all the four wheels via a 4MOTION AWD system. The high-performance SUV can do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.8 seconds while clocking an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. It is not yet known if the top speed will remain the same with the Indian model of T-Roc R or not. It is priced at EUR 43,995 (Around Rs 36.37 Lakhs) in Germany and the cost of Indian model will be more or less the same.
