Hyundai Verna manages to edge past Maruti Ciaz and Honda City in terms of sales in February.

C-Segment sedan has been a hotly contested segment lately, with cars such as Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, and Honda City offering the consumers with a lot of choices. As far as the sales are concerned, Hyundai Verna has managed to edge past the other two rivals by a thin margin. Hyundai’s feature rich offering sold 3,299 while City (3,273 units) and Ciaz (3,084 units came in at number two and three respectively. While initially we saw Ciaz taking the lead after the launch of facelifted model, the rivalry is getting intense as the numbers are settling down over time.

With the first three spots being exchanged only by Honda, Maruti, and Hyundai. The other cars in segment are far behind. Skoda Rapid (898 units), Volkswagen Vento (351 units) and Toyota Yaris (350 units) could not even bring up the sales into the 4-digit territory. This tells us about the tight grip the aforementioned trinity has over sales in the segment.

Hyundai Verna comes with a load of features and looks to match the same. While Maruti Ciaz and Honda City also give it a run for money in features, Verna’s base model is quite cheaper than the other two. Add to that the massive discounts that Hyundai was running on both 2019 and 2018 models of the car, and the reason for spike in sales come to light.

Hyundai Verna also offers a lot of choices for customers. For example, the C-Segment sedan comes with 4 engine options:

1. 1.4 liter Petrol (99 Bhp-132 Nm) paired with 6 speed manual

2. 1.6 liter Petrol (121 Bhp-151 Nm) paired to speed manual and auto

3. 1.4 liter Turbo Diesel (89 Bhp-220 Nm) paired to 6 speed manual

4. 1.6 liter Turbo Diesel (126 Bhp-260 Nm0 paired to 6 speed manual and auto

No other competitor offers the number of choices Verna does. Ciaz and City lag behind with limited engine and gearbox options. This offers a wide latitude for customers of Verna when choosing a variant. With the latest update, Verna has been loaded with features to the brim and sharp looks that few rivals in the segment can claim to match.

The entire rivalry in the segment will come a full circle when Honda will replace its City in 2020 with an all new model. Hyundai too is supposed to facelift its C-segment sedan around the same time. Just like the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz too will witness a model replacement by the company but only in 2021.
