The small yet rugged SUV is fitted with low-range off-road gear and will be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The new Jimny will be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show and spy pictures of the small SUV being tested in around four countries have already surfaced online.
The SUV is being designed using feedback of existing Jimny owners who rank its effective off-road abilities and its robustness as more important than its on-road performance.
A Suzuki spokesman stated that the car's unique selling point will be its hardy nature. The new Jimny’s overall styling is reminiscent of the Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender. Higher variants could feature chunky alloy wheels, more equipment on the inside and a dual-tone paint scheme. On the inside, it will be familiar, yet modern. There’s a new dash, with the AC vents, steering wheel and buttons shared with cars like the Ignis and the Swift. There’s even a centre-mounted touchscreen display for infotainment.
The car will be powered by a range of engines, like the 660cc turbo-petrol, the 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol and a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol motor. There will be automatic and manual gearbox options. For off-road purposes, Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro system will do duty in all cars.
