Kia Sonet will be launched around November 2020, during the festive season of Diwali.

Kia Motors has been working on the production-ready model of Sonet sub-compact SUV in the Indian market. Earlier, it was expected to launch around July-August this year but now it has been learnt that it would be launched in the festive season of Diwali in November 2020. The delay in the scheduled launch is due to the Coronavirus pandemic which has affected most of the countries in the world. Recently, a couple of test mules were spotted testing near the company's production facility in Ananthpur, Andhra Pradesh.

Going by the spy-shots, it can be said that the SUV is presently in the early stages of production. Though several exterior elements can be spotted in images in the form of 5-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels (likely to be 16-inch), silver roof rails, silver ORVMs, etc. among others. In fact, the infotainment system can also be seen partially. However, the second test doesn't feature roof rails and diamond-cut alloy wheels and hence, it can be termed as a entry-level variant. The company showcased the model at the 2020 Auto Expo in Concept form and it needs to be seen how visually different the production model is from the Concept. It is believed that Kia Sonet would miss out on rear disc brakes unlike some of its rivals.

Underpinning the same architecture as the Hyundai Venue, it will be an example of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Mechanically, Kia Sonet will also be available with three BS6 compliant engine options: a naturally aspirated 1.2L petrol engine with 82bhp and 114Nm, a 1.5L diesel engine with 99bhp and 240Nm and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine with 118bhp and 172Nm. The 1.2L petrol will be linked only with the 5-speed manual gearbox while the 1.5L diesel will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the 1.0L turbo petrol unit will be available with two transmission choices: a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT auto unit. For those asking, the 1.5L diesel motor will be the detuned version of the Seltos' 1.5L engine with lesser power and torque.
