Mahindra and Mahindra is already off to a very good start this year. The TUV300 and the KUV100 have crossed the 50,000 sales landmark. The TUV300 is the company's first ground-up attempt at the sub-four-metre SUV segment, while the KUV100 is the company’s first petrol-engined model.
The 'T' in TUV300 stands for Tough and this car has managed to prove its mettle in this competitive segment. The inclusion of the Automated Manual Transmission has been a first for Mahindra and efforts seem to have paid off. In the September 2015-March 2017 period, the TUV300 sold a total of 50,438 units. It is underpinned by Skoda's new chassis and this is what gives its frame the required stiffness.
Rajan Wadhera, president, Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra said, “The KUV100 has created an all-new SUV segment in the price range of ₹4.5 to 7 lakh. It combines the appeal of an SUV and the practicality of a compact car, making it a compelling value proposition for buyers. The recent introduction of the new-look, dual-tone KUV100 has also resonated well with our customers and going forward, I am sure that the KUV100 will continue to scale new heights.”
On the other hand, the KUV100 is roomy and known for its SUV-like design, despite being an entry level hatchback. It was launched in January 2016 and has since sold a total of 50,288 units, as per a statement from M&M. In the December 2015 to March 2017 period, the KUV100 sold a total of 49,908 units comprising 23,862 diesel variants and 26,046 petrol variants. The 50,000-unit sales mark was crossed in early April 2017.
