It has become common knowledge at this point that India’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki will bring out the premium 6-seater version of Ertiga MPV in the Indian market. The launch of the new version of MPV is expected to take place on 21 August. The new version of the bestselling MPV from the brand will be targeted at a more premium consumer base and will take up the upmarket quotient a bit higher. There is also speculation that the company may sell the new version of Ertiga via NEXA showrooms as this will be more upmarket and loaded version of the current Ertiga MPV.
The current version of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga already sells more units than the other MPVs in the market, although none of the MPVs -- Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Innova Crysta, and Mahindra Marazzo – take on each other in a direct manner. However, Ertiga may face renewed rivalry in the market with the looming launch of Renault Triber in India. Therefore, anticipating this, the brand had started working on a 6-seater version of Ertiga, and it has been spied testing in India.
The spy photos show that the MPV has a more aggressive stance, something that looks like a cross between SUV and MPV, with leanings toward the latter. The NEXA badging on the lower right corner of the rear windshield confirms that the new premium version of Ertiga will indeed be sold via the NEXA dealerships. Also present on the rear end is the XL6 badging which brings out the name of the latest version of MPV.
Talking of the front side of the new premium Ertiga, the front also carries an aggressive look, courtesy the redesigned grille alongwith the LED elements in the headlamp. Also making a presence at the front is a skid plate with brushed metal finish that lends the premium version of Ertiga ruggedness, at least in the aesthetics department. Although the interiors of the vehicle have not been spied so far, one can expect the front two rows of the MPV to come with captain seats and a bench seat making an appearance at the rear.
The new version of Ertiga is only expected to come with aesthetic and feature changes and the maker is not expected to make any changes in the engine department of the MPV. There are hopes that in the petrol version, the company will equip the upcoming version of Ertiga with a mild-hybrid 1.5L petrol engine rated to deliver 104 Bhp and 138 Nm. This petrol mill will come paired to a 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
