Maruti S-Presso is Future S Concept’s Production Model in India

Maruti Suzuki had presented the Future S Concept at the Auto Expo last year amid much hype and fanfare. The Concept was aimed at the urban market in India and now there are reports that the brand will come out with its production version some time later next year. The production version of the car will be called S-Presso by the company. The all-new car will take on the likes of Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago and the Mahindra KUV100 in the market. The launch of the all-new S-Presso will happen at around the festive season this year.

Right after the sub-4 meter compact SUV Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the upcoming S-Presso from the brand will be the second car that the Indian team of the company has developed all on its own. If one takes small cars into account then the S-Presso will be the very first car that the Suzuki’s team has developed in the country all on its own. The significance of the local team of the brand developing the vehicle all on its own will be that the company will now have to pay lesser royalty on the revenue from the car to the Japanese counterpart. This could mean that the company will look at passing some of the benefit to the customers, which would mean that the car will be priced a bit more competitively in the Indian market.

Based on the Future S Concept from the brand, the upcoming S-Presso will be a unique vehicle on the roads because the Concept in itself was based on a micro-SUV design. Just like the upcoming Tata Hornbill, the S-Presso will encash the SUV trend that has been growing strong in the Indian market. The SUV based design of the vehicle along with the compact dimensions will make it a perfect vehicle for the urban Indian market, where the crowd of the vehicles is growing on the streets by the day. As far as the sales of the upcoming S-Presso are concerned, the brand plans it on selling from its newly revamped Arena dealerships.

The launch of S-Presso will mark another Maruti Suzuki in the entry level segment. A segment that the brand absolutely dominates with the presence of models like the Alto and WagonR in the Indian market. As far as the engine details of the S-Presso are concerned, there is no word on it as of now, but what can be said is that the car will be a petrol only model as the largest automaker of India has already announced that the company will stop the production of diesel engine cars after the BS-VI emission norms kick in.
