Suzuki’s small hatchback offering in the global and Indian market is all set to receive a model update. The Japanese brand will bring forth the new version of Alto later in 2019. Keep in mind that the Indian version of Alto is not being talked about here, rather it is the global version we’re speaking of. The Indian version of the small hatchback will come at a later time, but the global version of Alto will be presented in October 2019. The global version of Alto is sold in international markets as well as Japan. Maruti Suzuki had launched the Alto in India in 2000 and its more powerful K10 version was launched in India in 2010.
Before bringing the global model Alto to India, Maruti makes appropriate changes to the Suzuki car so as to keep it in tune with the Indian market’s demand and conditions. Therefore, the global model of Alto remains quite different as compared to Indian model. This is not just the case with Alto but with WagonR and other Suzuki models as well.
As has been the case with almost all other small cars of the Japanese brand’s line-up, the upcoming new generation Alto be based on the new lightweight HEARTECT platform. The high-strength and lighter platform will increase the safety of Alto while keeping it on the lighter side. As we have already stated the global model looks different to the Indian model in terms of looks. Global spec Alto will come with a sharp design and sporty headlamps and bumpers will make it more attractive. Although the overall shadow of the small hatchback will remain unchanged. The new design will be based on the model of Alto sold in Suzuki’s home Japan market that has a very aggressive look. The regular version of Alto will also come with the sportier ‘Works’ version of the small hatchback, and you guessed it, it is not sold in India.
As far as engine is concerned Suzuki will probably make no changes to the existing 660cc engine that power the global variants of small hatchback Alto. Suzuki also offers their Jimny SUV with the same engine in their home market.
Talking about the Indian model of Alto, there are hopes of the launch of a new model here as well. The upcoming model will be based on the aforementioned HEARTECT platform found on other smaller cars from the brand in India. The new model will also probably be bigger, but not by a greater margin. Also, the new platform will help the Alto be more fuel efficient in India. The engine specs are not supposed to change on the upcoming new model of Maruti Suzuki Alto in India. The upcoming Bharat New Vehicle Assessment Program (BNVSAP) will also force the new model of Alto to make significant changes as far as safety is concerned. Under the new norms Alto will have a driver-side airbag, ABS+EBD, rear parking sensors, driver seat-belt reminder and speed warning as standard.
The updated Alto will be inspired by the global model as far as looks are concerned, although radical changes are not likely. There is no launch date for the upcoming new model of Maruti Suzuki Alto so far but the update is supposed to take place sometime later this year.
