Mercedes Benz launched its luxury EV - EQC in the country in October last year. Following this, the luxury EV received an overwhelming response in the Indian market. Initially, it was only made available in six metro cities as a part of the first phase of the launch plan. The first batch was sold out within three months. Now the German automaker has opened the bookings for the second batch from today onwards. Interested buyers can book the vehicle either online or via their nearest dealerships.
The Mercedes Benz EQC now gets an upgraded 11 kW onboard charger. With this charger, you can charge the 80 kW battery from 0-100 percent in just 7 hours and 30 minutes. Earlier, it was available with a 7.5 kW onboard charger that took 11 hours to fully charge the battery. Besides this, the spare wheel will now be positioned under the load floor of the electric vehicle.
The new cities that have been included under the phase 2 expansion include Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur, Dehradun, Jalandhar, Baroda, Surat, Jodhpur, Ludhiana, Karnal, Raipur, Nashik, Kolhapur, Calicut, Kanpur, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Mysore, Coimbatore, Kolkata, Guwahati, Goa, Vizag, Jamshedpur, Bhubaneshwar, Mangalore, Kochi, Madurai, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Salem, Thrissur, Hubli, Indore, Vadodara, Vijayawada, Lucknow, Mohali, Aurangabad, and other cities.
“Pioneering the luxury EV market in India with the EQC was an important decision for us and a step taken in the right direction. With the growing customer demand for the EQC, we are now expanding our EV penetration to 50 Indian cities, covering our entire retail network spread. This decision will enable more customers across Indian cities to own the EQC and join the transition to luxury e-mobility. Commencement of Phase II expansion for the EQC is in line with our broader vision of creating a long-term, worry-free, sustainable e-mobility ecosystem for our customers in India. Mercedes-Benz globally is pursuing an aggressive EV strategy of ‘EV first to EV only’, and in India, the high acceptance level of the EQC makes us confident that electric is the future,” as commented by Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
The new EQC is offered as one single fully-loaded variant - EQC 400 4matic. It is retailed at Rs 1.07 crore (ex-showroom). Performance-wise, the electric SUV gets two electric motors located one on each axle. The electric motor is further powered by an 80 kW lithium-ion battery. Talking about the electric motor, it churns out a top power of 402 bhp and a peak torque of 765 Nm. Moving on, the EQC can achieve 0-100 kmph in merely 5.1 seconds. When fully charged, it provides a driving range of 450-471 km.
