The updated GLA SUV will launch here on July 5, 2017 and will rival the likes of BMW’s X1 and Audi’s Q3. The car was first unveiled at the Detroit motor show back in January 2017 and features tweaked bumpers, a newly designed grille and different alloys. The optional bi-xenon headlights have made way for LED units. Tweaks have resulted in the car being 30mm higher than the outgoing model.
Like the outgoing car, the cabin features an eight-inch infotainment system, however, the dials and needles behind the steering wheel are new. The electric seat controls and centre console stowage compartment surrounds are finished in chrome.
The GLA sold abroad features a Yellow Night Edition car at the top of its line-up. This version comes with black exterior paint, yellow highlights and sits on alloy wheels wearing the same colour scheme. The seats are wrapped in Artico leather and Dinamica microfibre material, and there’s an AMG Performance steering wheel in the cabin as well. Door sills, floor mats and air outlets are also finished with yellow highlights. This model, however, may or may not make it to our shores.
The updated GLA will continue with the same set of engines as the pre-facelift car – there’s a 136hp, 2.1-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol good for 183hp.
