MG reveals the first look of an electric roadster concept.

Morris Garages or MG is one of the iconic automobile brands in the world. The MG marque along with other assets of MG Rover was brought by the Nanjing Automobile Group which later merged into SAIC in 2007. In the Chinese automobile market, MG carries traction among the Chinese consumers with MG selling over 100,000 ZSs alone in 2019, MG brand image is the biggest selling point in China compared to Britain where MG is struggling to sell vehicles with just 1700 cars sold in December 2019.

SAIC is now developing a new electric sportscar named Cyberstar.  Cyberstar is an electric powered roadster, a slim car with a sportier look. SAIC hasn’t released any official details about the sportscar concept as of now but it will come equipped with 5G connectivity and Level 3 autonomous driving technology.  There is no clarity on what its power, battery capacity and performance would be like.

What is evident from images revealed by the parent company SAIC’s design studio in London is that the Cyberster comes with the standard MG features. It is to feature rounded headlights, long bonnet and tapered windscreens.

MG isn’t new to the electric Coupe Concept, it unveiled an E-Motion Concept but it came with a roof and 4-seating capacity. E-Motion concept was powered by an electric powertrain offering some 500 kms range on a single charge and is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in under 4 seconds. The E-Motion was due to go into production this year but plans have been delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. MG Cyberster, the concept vehicle is still in the planning stage but we would expect more information in the coming months once the Coronavirus Pandemic situation normalizes.
