We earlier reported to you that the new-gen Hyundai Creta BS6 has registered over 20,000 bookings since its much anticipated launch on March 16, 2020 in the Indian market. The South-Korean automaker even managed to retail 6703 units of the new SUV before the nationwide lockdown was announced by PM Narendra Modi on March 25, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, we have come to learn that more than 55 percent of the new-gen 2020 Hyundai Creta BS6 bookings are for the diesel variants out of the total booked units.
Tarun Garg, Director - Sales, Marketing and Service, Hyundai India, in an interaction with carandbike, said, “I’m very happy to inform you that 55% of the bookings for Creta are for diesel.” The SUV is available in a total of five grades: E, EX, S, SX and SX (O). The diesel variants are offered in a total of seven variants: 5 manual and 2 automatic. They are powered by the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which generates maximum power output of 113bhp and peak torque performance of 250Nm while available with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. There is also a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox on offer as optional. The power is being sent to the front wheels of the SUV.

The new-gen 2020 Hyundai Creta BS6 price falls in the range of Rs 9.99-17.20 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India). The diesel variants are nearly Rs 1.05-1.50 Lakhs more expensive than their corresponding petrol variants. The 1.4L Kappa T-GDi petrol engine, contrary to the higher expectations, has delivered a mediocre performance as it has been able to garner approx. 5.4 percent of the total bookings of the SUV. “About 12 percent of the 45 percent petrol is turbo,” Garg said. This engine was specifically introduced for performance-focused customers, but it has failed to make any impact so far. Hyundai Creta takes on the likes of Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks and MG Hector in the Indian market.
