The new Jawa electric motorcycle will be in line with the company's traditional design language.

Jawa Motorcycle is working on an all-electric bike for the Indian market, claims an AutoCar India report. The report further states that Classic Legends, the owner of Jawa moniker, is working on the new electric motorcycle in-house. Jawa Motorcycle had a decent run in the Indian market ever since it started operations in 2018 with the unveiling of three new bikes. Recently, it launched the Perak Bobber while updating the other bikes with a BS6 compliant engine. Jawa BS6 motorcycles can be spotted at company dealerships and sales might start anytime soon.

It is not a hidden fact anymore that Mahindra is a majority stakeholder in Jawa but despite that Classic Legends is shouldering the responsibility of developing the new Jawa electric motorcycle on its own. Mahindra's vast experience with EVs including the racing cars in the Formula E championship could be leveraged by Classic Legends and some sort of technical exchange is imminent. It is also learnt that the company, identical to all its petrol motorcycles, desires to keep the localisation as high as possible. However insiders tell us that yet some of the components such as battery cells and battery management system will be imported as they can't be sourced locally.

As far as styling is concerned, the new Jawa electric motorcycle will be in line with the company's traditional design language. It could be the most advanced, upmarket and futuristic motorcycle in Jawa's line-up upon its launch due to the all-electric engine. If we look around the globe, several bikemakers are rapidly adopting to electrification of motorcycles even if it costs them a lot. Royal Enfield too has been working on an electric bike for the last couple of years while the American bike maker Harley Davidson has already launched its first electric bike - the Livewire - in several international markets. The new Jawa electric motorcycle is expected to break cover by the end of 2021.
