The next car from Kia - the South Korean automaker - that will be introduced in the Indian car market next year, can be seen testing on roads in South Korea. The new car is a mid-sized MPV and has been given a code name ‘KY’. Recently, its spy images surfaced online, but it is expected to be launched in India sometime around 2022. This will be the fourth Kia offering in India after Seltos, Carnival and Sonet. The new Kia KY MPV will give a tough competition to Maruti Ertiga and Renault Triber, as it will be an entry level premium MPV, priced in the vicinity of Rs. 10-15 lakhs.
The few specifications of the new KY MPV that are out in public domain are that it is surely going to be a typical MPV, which can be easily gauged from the elongated rear section. It’s L-shaped tail lights and LED daytime running lights can also be clearly seen from the spied pictures. Not to mention, the whole setup looks very similar to Kia Sonet. The suspected specifications of the new Kia car are a seven seater layout with three rows of seats, based on SP2 platform and with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. It is alleged that the Kia KY MPV will be a better value-for-money package than the Sonet or Seltos. So, it can be expected that a few features like sunroof, 360 degree camera, ventilated front seats, cruise control, heads-up display, air purifier, connected car tech, ambient lighting and DRLs will definitely be a part of the MPV.
The spied MPV will be available in the global markets including the popular Asian countries. It may be unveiled by the end of 2021 and launch could take place in the beginning of 2022. Kia slowly and steadily is establishing its position in India in different segments. Primarily, Kia focused on the SUV segment, then it made an entry in the high-end MPV segment with Carnival and now the new KY 7-seater will be positioned in the affordable MPV segment.
