Kia Motors likely to launch the Carnival in 2021; the fourth-gen MPV has already been unveiled globally

Kia Motors launched the Third-Generation Carnival sometime ago as its second product in the Indian market. The MPV managed to attract a good number of customers. Seeing the performance of this third-gen MPV, the South Korean company is all set to launch the fourth-generation of the Carnival soon in the country. The company has already unveiled the fourth-generation Carnival MPV globally. It is likely to be launched in 2021. However, it will start reaching the showrooms in Korea in the coming months. The latest iteration of the Carnival MPV has been dubbed as the ‘Grand Utility Vehicle’. It features a host of changes in terms of design accompanied by increase in dimensions. 

The Next Gen Kia Carnival is also known as Sedona in some of the global markets. It is based on a completely new platform. In terms of dimensions, the MPV is 40mm longer and 100mm wider as compared to its older sibling. Furthermore, the wheelbase has also increased by 30mm. Its front fascia features Kia’s tiger-nose grille with a diamond mesh pattern and chrome inserts. In addition, it gets slender headlamps with new LED DRLs. The C-shaped front bumper is sleek in size and is accompanied by a wide central air intake. The rear end boasts of LED light bar that runs right across the entire width of the vehicle. The MPV retains the sliding rear doors from its older sibling. Other design highlights include redesigned C-pillar, bolder body lines, restyled rear bumper among others. 


The cabin design of the New Gen Kia Carnival is based on the Spatial Talent Concept. It is available in a 3-row or 4-row seating configuration. Further, it can seat up to 11 passengers. The seven-seater Carnival has reclining captain seats in the middle row with adjustable headrest, armrest, and legrest. The MPV will also boast of dual display. This will include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a similarly-sized digital instrument cluster. The dashboard consists of touch-sensitive buttons. These buttons can be used to control the infotainment unit and climate-control functions. Also, controls for the shift-by-wire transmission are positioned at the base of the centre console.

The safety kit of the Carnival MPV comprises of pedestrian and cyclist detection, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, and many more. It also comes equipped with Safe Exit Assist. This particular feature prevents the sliding rear doors from opening if the system detects a vehicle approaching from behind. 


Under the skin, the Carnival MPV in the global market will be offered with 3 engine options. A 3.5-litre GDi V6 petrol engine that churns out 290 bhp power and 350 Nm torque. There is also a 3.5-litre MPi V6 petrol unit that belts out 286 bhp with 332 Nm torque. While the diesel variant draws its power from a 2.2-litre engine that generates a maximum power output of 199 bhp and 404 Nm of peak torque. All the engines are linked to 8-speed automatic transmissions.
