Ola Launches E-Bike Taxi Service in Delhi and Hyderabad

Ola Mobility, a famous ride-hailing platform, has launched its new e-bike taxi service in Hyderabad and Delhi. The brand first introduced the electric bike cab service as a pilot program in Bengaluru, and after its success, Ola is now gearing up to expand this service to other cities as well. The company announced that it will deploy a total of 10,000 electric scooters in Delhi and Hyderabad in the forthcoming months.

The company claims that once all the electric bikes have been deployed, it will own the largest two-wheeler electric fleet in the country. Ola Mobility’s e-bike taxi service is going to be the most affordable solution for traveling within cities. As time passes, the ride-hailing platform plans to launch its taxi service in more cities. The new Ola electric bike will cost INR 25 for 5 km, INR 50 for 10 km, and for 15 km it will cost INR 75. Ola says that its e-bike service is going to be the “most affordable, sustainable, and convenient solution to commute within cities."

The CEO of Ola Mobility, Hemant Bakshi, said, “Electrification is the biggest lever to unlock affordability in the mobility space. At Ola, driving affordable mobility through electrification is our priority and in line with our vision to serve 1 billion Indians. Following the massive success of our Bangalore e-bike taxi pilot, we have proven its sustainable value proposition for all ecosystem participants - the consumer (lower price), the driver (higher earnings), and Ola (new category and revenues), and now look at mass deployments across Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad and build a larger market for e-Bike taxis in India. With our focus on innovation, and accessibility, our e-bike taxi initiative will also serve as a multi-work opportunity for gig-economy workers on the Ola platform and pave the way for the future of commerce."

The company further said that its pilot program has been successfully active in Bengaluru. The brand launched its taxi service in September 2023, and since then it has witnessed a market expansion of 40 percent in this segment. Ola has completed over 1.75 million rides till now. It has built 200 charging stations in Bengaluru to provide for its e-bike fleet. Ola Mobility is planning to set up manufacturing facilities in other cities as well. It envisions providing service to over one billion passengers nationwide. Companies like Rapido and Uber offer similar bike cab services in select cities in India.
