MoRTH has approved the usage of quadricycles as the private vehicles.

Quadricycles are a good and cheap alternative to cars and it provides better safety and protection than two and three-wheelers. Since May 2013, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has allowed the usage of Quadricycles as the commercial vehicle but not for private usage.

Now, the MoRTH has approved the quadricycles as a new category of vehicles which means that the quadricycles can now be used as private vehicles also. This decision will be beneficial for Bajaj, as Qute can be now used for both private and commercial purpose. The Qute made its debut in India at the 2012 Auto Expo but then it was named as RE60.

Any four-wheeler will fall in the quadricycle category if the kerb weight of the vehicle is less than 475 kg. However, the vehicle has to pass the emissions tests followed by the safety and crash-tests to get qualified. These testing and scoring of all tests will be based on the powertrain of the vehicle.
