Skoda Kushaq is the first new vehicle under India 2.0 project

Skoda India has confirmed the world premiere of Kushaq mid-sized SUV in March 2021 in the country. Recently, Zac Hollis - Director, Sales, Service & Marketing, Skoda India, while interacting with a user on social networking website Twitter made it official. Last month, the company had announced that the Vision IN Concept based SUV would be christened as 'Kushaq'. Being the first new vehicle under India 2.0 project, Skoda Kushaq is expected to be launched around April-May in the Indian market with deliveries commencing shortly thereafter.

Zac Hollis was asked on Twitter by a user, "“when can we expect the full reveal of Kushaq?” To this, he answered, “Next Month”. The Kushaq is based on the VW Group's MQB AO IN architecture just like its sister brand's Volkswagen Taigun. The company has carried out heavy localization to homologate the MQB AO global platform which underpins international models such as Volkswagen T-Cross and Skoda Kamiq. Measuring around 4.25 meters in length, it will have the best-in-segment wheelbase of 2651mm which will ensure class-leading interior space and boot capacity. As for features, one can expect Skoda Kushaq to carry a sunroof, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, wireless charging and a massive touchscreen infotainment system.

Its safety equipment list is going to be extensive too with the inclusion of 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESP), Hill Hold Control (HHC), ABS with EBD and BA, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and ISOFIX child anchorages for rear seats. Under the bonnet, it will offer a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine having a top power of 120bhp and peak torque of 200Nm. This engine will be equipped with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Skoda is also expected to introduce a bigger and powerful 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. This engine will deliver 147bhp and 250Nm. Skoda Kushaq will rival the likes of Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta in its segment.
