The all-new SUV will go on to replace the Yeti.

Skoda will replace its capable Yeti with the Karoq. Unofficial news about the new name had surfaced online a few days ago. The carmaker has announced that the new model will be unveiled on May 18. Near-production test cars have been spotted in and around Europe. The company has also released a first set of teasers.

The second-gen Yeti’s design is completely different from the outgoing model – it looks more like the brand’s larger SUV, the Kodiaq. The Karoq will come with a 2,600mm wheelbase, up from 2,578mm of the previous model and the car will be built on VW’s MQB platform, which also underpins models, including the Audi Q3, Seat Ateca and the Volkswagen Tiguan. The Karoq may borrow autonomous driving tech from the bigger Kodiaq.

Expect the new five-seater to have touchscreen infotainment system in its centre console with a simple design for the air conditioning controls beneath. There are no details on the engine as of now, but expect similar engines as the current-gen Volkswagen Tiguan and Seat’s Ateca SUVs.
