Tata Goshaq sub-compact sedan would be based on the ALFA architecture.

Tata Motors has been working on a plethora of new cars and SUVs for the Indian market. The company even showcased some of its future products at the 2020 Auto Expo which included the likes of Gravitas 7-seater SUV, Tigor EV and H2X micro-SUV. However, our friends at Team-BHP have learnt that the company has also begun work on a new sub 4-meter sedan which could be christened as Tata Goshaq. It is further learnt that Tata Goshaq sub-compact sedan would be based on the Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced (ALFA) architecture.

The sedan would take styling inspiration from the Hornbill, Sierra & Tigor while adorning Tata's IMPACT Design 2.0 language. The report states that it is not known yet whether the Goshaq would be the next-gen Tigor or it will be an all-new model which will replace the Tigor in the coming couple of years. However, we believe that Tigor is not going anywhere at least in the next 4-5 years as it was launched in the Indian market in March 2017, which is barely three years back. Generally, a vehicle has a life span of 5-6 years if not more. Tata Motors recently discontinued the Zest sub 4-sedan after its journey of six years as it was launched August 2014. The Zest was only sold to fleet owners and commercial taxi companies post the launch of Tigor in 2017.

Tata Goshaq is not expected to be launched before 2022 in the Indian market and we believe that it will be sold simultaneously with the Tigor in the Indian market. The most Tata Motors can do is make the Goshaq exclusive to personal buyers while the Tigor could be sold to fleet owners and taxi companies. The Tigor might meet the same fate as the Zest in the next 3-4 years. The company has claimed that ALFA platform can support a variety of powertrains such as petrol, diesel and even hybrid and all-electric which we have already seen with the Altroz as it was the first product to be based on this very platform. So, on the similar lines, we could see an all-electric and hybrid version of Goshaq, besides the conventional petrol and diesel engines.
