2.0-litre KRYOTEC diesel engine will power the upcoming Tata Harrier SUV.

The new Harrier is a much-awaited SUV from Tata Motors and to increase the anticipation, Tata has unveiled the powerplant of the vehicle. The Harrier will be powered by an all-new 2.0-litre KRYOTEC diesel engine. It is the same engine that is being offered with the Jeep Compass but expect different tuning by Tata.

This 2.0-litre unit will be a 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. The variable geometry turbo on this engine is electronically controlled, which minimises the turbo lag and ensures power from minimum RPM. The engine will come with different drive modes along with Terrain Response Mode. The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) on this engine will deliver better fuel efficiency while meeting the stringent emission norms.

The Harrier has been developed in close collaboration with Jaguar Land-Rover. The monocoque chassis of the Harrier is based on the OMEGARC architecture. Tata Harrier will make its debut in January 2019.
