Tata Nano production will come to a complete halt as the carmaker won't updated the Nano for upcoming safety and emission norms

Tata Nano's launch was a historic day, not only for the Indian car market but across the globe as it was the most affordable production car launched in India. It was a big project for the Indian carmaker that faced many ups and downs but made a mark in the automotive world. Now due to the strict safety and emission norms coming up in India, it will be phased out by the end of April.

Tata Motors is not willing to invest further on the Nano to make it compliant for the new safety and emission norms. The sales were already dwindling in the last couple of years. The Nano got a lot of updates after its launch including power steering, AMT transmission, openable boot and some new features to target a wider audience.

The Nano was powered by a 624cc, 2-cylinder petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 38 PS at 5500 RPM with a peak torque of 51 Nm at 4000 RPM. This engine was mated to a 4-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT transmission. The Nano had a rear engine, rear-wheel drive layout.
