The app-based cab aggregator remarked that its services will first start in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi, and later in other regions of India.

Uber unveiled its first EV-only taxi service in Bengaluru on Thursday. The Uber Green fleet, which is made up of Tata Tigor EVs, was officially launched during the Bengaluru Tech Summit. The Information and Technology Minister of Karnataka, Priyank Kharge, unveiled the company's first Uber Green electric cabs. Uber stated that commuters in Bengaluru will now have access to sustainable mobility options with its Uber Green services available throughout the city.

Uber announced the arrival of Uber Green in the Indian market in June this year. The app-based cab aggregator remarked that its services will first start in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi, and later in other regions of India. Uber Green is already available in Mumbai, and Bengaluru is the second city to get it, almost six months after the official announcement was made. The cab aggregator is planning to expand its reach to other parts of the country.

Other than Gurugram-based BluSmart, Uber Green is the new electric vehicle option for commuters. The President of India and South Asia at Uber, Mr. Prabhjeet Singh, stated that “very excited to be launching our flagship sustainability product, Uber Green, in Bengaluru, which is the city where we started our operations, a city I call home. Uber Green is our attempt to offer a choice to consumers who want to ride in an emission-free vehicle; this is an electric fleet."

The new Uber Green will utilize Tata Tigor electric vehicles as part of its EV fleet. Tata Motors is offering its Tigor EV as a cab to various cab aggregators. Powering this electric sedan is a permanent-magnet AC electric motor, which can churn out up to 127 bhp of horsepower. The 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack available in the sedan provides a range of 300 km on one charge.

The cab users do not have to download any app to book Uber Green, as the company offers this service within its existing app. The booking process is the same as it is for regular cabs booked through apps. The cab aggregator stated that this electric cab has been accessible on its existing app since May 2023. The Uber Green cab rides would initially cost more in Bengaluru. Uber estimates that the cost of an electric vehicle ride might be up to 10 percent higher than a standard Uber cab.
