Ola S1 Pro electric scooter has been making headlines ever since it was unveiled last year in the Indian market. However, in a rather unfortunate incident recorded on camera, it caught fire and within minutes the scooter turned to ashes. The aforementioned episode took place in the Lohegaon area of Pune and it has again raised the questions regarding the safety of electric two-wheelers in India. Ola has already been receiving a lot of flak from the buyers as well as the industry peers due to its humongous claims about the scooter performance and massive delay in the deliveries to the buyers.
The 31 second video shows the Ola S1 Pro parked on the road of a husting commercial hub in the city as it engulfs in fire. The cause of the fire has not been detected as of now but the company has initiated a probe into the fire incident. We believe that a thermal runaway is the primary factor behind the scooter bursting into flames. For those asking, thermal runway stands for an uncontainable exothermic reaction which happens in the lithium-ion battery pack due to short-circuit. Also, once the li-ion battery catches fire, it is quite tough to extinguish it. Mostly, EVs catch fire due to the sub-standard quality of lithium ion cells. In fact, an inefficient battery management system also causes the fire.
