We are back with the 'Weekly-Wrap Up' of the biggest automobile stories from India and around the world. The most prominent announcement was the launch of Tata Altroz iTurbo in the Indian market. Other big launches included the names of 2021 Skoda Rapid Rider, New Volvo S60 and the Ducati Scrambler Range of motorcycles. Another premium sedan to hit the headlines was the introduction of BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine at a price point of Rs 51.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. Read on to know more about what all happened over the previous week.
3 Ducati Scrambler Models Launched in India
Ducati India launched 3 Scrambler models namely Icon, Icon Dark and 1100 Dark Pro in the Indian market on January 22, 2021. Ducati Scrambler Icon Dark is the most affordable of the three motorcycles with a price tag of Rs 7.99 lakh while the Scrambler Icon retails at Rs 8.49 lakh. The top-end Scrambler 1100 Dark Pro will set back the Indian buyer by Rs 10.99 lakhs. All the prices mentioned here are (ex-showroom), India. The updated MY21 Ducati Scrambler lineup comes with new colour options, features, and BS6 compliant engines. Both Scrambler Icon and Icon Dark are powered by a 803cc air-cooled L-twin engine in a BS6 avatar. The top-end Ducati Scrambler 1100 Dark Pro comes equipped with a 1079cc BS6 engine. It offers features like Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Cornering ABS.
2021 MG Hector Plus 7-Seater Select Variant Priced at Rs 18.32 Lakhs in India
MG Motor India introduced a new ‘Select’ variant of the Hector Plus at a price of Rs 18.32 lakhs (ex-showroom). It sits above the Smart trim. The SUV provides features like a 10.4-inch HD screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, 4 airbags, wireless charging among many others. Safety equipment onboard the vehicle include ESP, traction control, hill hold control, rear wiper & washer, and a rear defogger. There are three powertrain options currently available with the four-wheeler. First is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine offering a 48V mild hybrid system paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the second consists of a 2.0-litre diesel unit mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. And the third is a normal 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor linked to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DCT automatic transmissions.
2021 Skoda Rapid Rider Variant Priced at Rs 7.79 Lakh in India
Skoda Auto India introduced the entry-level Rapid Rider at a price tag of Rs 7.79 lakh (ex-showroom) in the country. Rapid Rider is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged, 3-cylinder petrol engine with a power output of 108 bhp and 175 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It comes loaded with safety equipment like dual front airbags, ABS, and rear parking sensors. The mid-size sedan comes loaded with features like automatic climate control, rear AC vents, all four power windows, remote central locking, rear defogger, adjustable headrests in the front & rear and power-adjustable wing mirrors.
BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine Launched at Rs 51.50 Lakhs
This week, BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine was launched in the price bracket of Rs 51.50 - Rs 53.90 lakhs (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. The new model is the long-wheelbase version of BMW’s popular luxury sedan - the 3 Series. The limousine will retail in 4 colour shades- Carbon Black metallic, Cashmere Silver metallic, Melbourne Red metallic and Mineral White metallic. Talking about performance, the BMW 3 Series Limousine is powered with two engine options - a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit and a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel mill. The former produces 258 bhp of power output while the latter delivers a power figure of 190 bhp. Both engines come paired to an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.
Okinawa Dual Electric Scooter Launched at Rs 58,998 in India
Okinawa launched the country’s first B2B electric two-wheeler, Okinawa Dual this week. The scooter carries a price tag of Rs 58,998 (ex-showroom). Interested buyers can purchase the scooter from Okinawa's authorized dealerships and stores across India. Mechanically, the new Okinawa Dual is powered by a 250-Watt electric motor having a top speed of 25 kmph. Further, the company has included a 48W 55Ah detachable battery with the package. This battery can fully be charged in 4 to 5 hours. The manufacturer claims a range of 130 kms on a single full charge. The Li-ion battery pack ensures fast charging thereby making it highly reliable for B2B use. Also, the brand is offering additional customized accessories like a delivery box, stackable crates, cold storage boxes for medicines, cylinder carrier and lab on wheels with the scooter. The scooter is useful for carrying a heavy load like gas cylinders, heavy hardware equipment, water cans, groceries with the help of these accessories.
2021 Mercedes Benz GLC Launched at Rs 57.40 Lakhs
In this week, Mercedes-Benz launched 2021 GLC at a price tag of Rs 57.40 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. It is available in two variants - 200 and 220d. The former is priced at Rs 57.40 lakhs (ex-showroom) while the GLC 220d 4M retails at Rs 63.15 lakhs (ex-showroom). The 2021 GLC will come with two new colour shades - Brilliant Blue and High-Tech Silver. The GLC 200 houses a 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit that delivers a power output of 192 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the GLC 220d is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel unit producing 192 bhp of power and 400 Nm torque. Both these engines are paired to a 9G Tronic automatic transmission.
Tata Altroz iTurbo Launch Price is Rs 7.73 Lakh in India
Tata Altroz iTurbo was launched in India at a starting price of Rs 7.74 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-end trim carries a price tag of Rs 8.85 lakh (ex-showroom), India. With the new hatchback, Tata Motors aims to gain market share in the segment against rivals like the New-Generation Hyundai i20 Turbo, Volkswagen Polo GT and Maruti Baleno RS. Tata Altroz iTurbo is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The hatchback produces 108 bhp of maximum power output @5500 rpm and 140 Nm of peak torque @1500-5500 rpm. Currently, there is only a 5-speed manual transmission unit onboard. It offers two Driving Modes namely Sport and City.
Hero MotoCorp Rolls Out its 100 Millionth Two-Wheeler
Hero MotoCorp recently rolled out its 100 millionth bike, the Xtreme 160R from its manufacturing facility in Haridwar. The company celebrated the momentous occasion by unveiling six celebration edition models. Out of the six, four are motorcycles namely Splendor+, Xtreme 160R, Passion Pro, Glamour while the other two are scooters - Destini 125 and Maestro Edge 110. All these models will come with a special Red and White colour scheme. They will go on sale from February 2021 in the domestic market. The company’s 100 millionth vehicle, Hero Xtreme 160R was launched in June 2020. The Xtreme 160R is powered by a 163cc air-cooled engine having a power output of 15 bhp and 14 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
