Nitin Gadkari says Delhi-Mumbai expressway will be completed in three years.

Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said that work on the Delhi-Mumbai expressway will begin this December. He also added that the project will be complete in three years, according a report by PTI.

The expressway will connect the national capital and the financial capital, reducing travel time to 12 hours from the current 20. The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 1 trillion. It will go through less-developed areas, and will cut total distance by 400km to 1,250km.

Construction work will begin in 40 different locations simultaneously, so that work may be completed faster. Besides cutting down travel time between Delhi and Mumbai, the project will help decongest Delhi-NCR as well since traffic won’t have to go through the city anymore.
