Zoomcar flagged off the first batch of Tata Tigor Electric Vehicles at a ceremony in Pune. This embarks the beginning of a new partnership between Zoomcar and Tata Motors through which Tata Motors will provide 500 Tigor EVs to Zoomcar over the course of next year. Zoomcar plans to provide these 500 EVs in up to 20 cities by next year.
“The future of mobility will increasingly be connected, shared and powered by zero emission technologies. Tata Motors is strongly committed to this transformative journey and working with all like-minded partners to accelerate the enabling ecosystem. It is a great pleasure to announce our partnership with Zoomcar to offer shared electric mobility solution for the citizens of Pune. Tata Tigor EV will now be available on the self-drive rental platform, offered by Zoomcar, to enable zero-emission transport option for the citizens of Pune. We are confident that our customers will appreciate and enjoy the driving experience.” said Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President, Electric Mobility Business and Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors.
While Mr. Greg Moran, Co-founder and CEO, Zoomcar said, “The Zoomcar team is thrilled to partner with Tata Motors to bring electric vehicles to Pune. This marks the beginning of a dynamic partnership within electric mobility and we expect to touch 20 cities and 500 electric vehicles with Tata over the next year.”
Tata Motors have provided electric vehicles to the Indian government in the past as well. Tata Motors unveiled the Tigor EVs late in 2017. The Tigor EVs are almost identical to their IC engine counterparts in terms of design and styling. The EV has a range of 120 kms and a top speed of 130 km/h. However, Tata has made the Tigor EVs available for the mass market as of now.
This isn't the first time Zoomcar has partnered with a manufacturer to provide electric mobility solutions in the self-driving car rental space. Earlier this year, Zoomcar had partnered with Mahindra Electric to provide 50 e2o Plus EVs for self-driving rental in Pune.
