Yamaha is all set to unveil the MT-03 and R3 motorcycles in the Indian market on December 15, 2023. The motorcycles will be brought to the country via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route. Yamaha recently announced that it will be launching these two bikes in India, and since then, there has been a lot of excitement among its customers about these models. The R3 motorcycle was discontinued from the Indian market when the government changed the emission norms. The MT-03 will be launched for the first time in India. The MT-03 motorcycle is a streetfighter, whereas the R3 is a supersport motorcycle. Both motorcycles will be imported from Thailand via the CBU route.

The Yamaha R3 is likely to be priced around INR 4 lakh (ex-showroom), while the MT-03 will be available at a price of INR 3.8 lakh (ex-showroom). It is anticipated that if there is high demand for the bikes in the future, the company will reduce the costs of these two models.

The MT-03 and R3 motorcycles will come equipped with the same engine and chassis. Transmission and suspension setups are also the same. Suspension duties in the new models are done by upside-down forks at the front and a monoshock at the back. Braking duties are done by a disc located at the front and rear. Yamaha is also offering dual-channel ABS on motorcycles.

The motorcycles roll on 17-inch alloy wheels. Both motorcycles are powered by a 321-cc, liquid-cooled parallel-dual engine that churns out peak power of 41.4 bhp and max torque of 29.6 Nm. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch.

Yamaha is not providing any new features with motorcycles. The MT-03 and R3 motorcycles will come equipped with traditional features like LED lighting and an LCD instrument cluster that displays the information to the rider. The Yamaha R3 will compete with the likes of the Aprilia RS 457, KTM RC 390, and Kawasaki Ninja 300, whereas the MT-03 will give tough competition to the BMW G 310 R and the 390 Duke.
